Review

Whispers from the Dead of Night is a collection of 7 short stories with different subcategories of horror and thriller. Although the stories vary in time periods, characters, and themes, they’re meant to convey the same range of emotions in the horror genre.

This is a very short review because I’m honestly conflicted about how to rate this. There are some stories where I was so intrigued and invested that I wish they were longer. However, there are also others where I was just left confused and wanted more… but I couldn’t really explain what more of since each story ends just fine. More depth, probably? I’m not sure.

I will say, I spaced this read to one to two stories per night because I thought the author was really great at setting the right mood. Reading this in the dark amplified those dark emotions being conveyed in its pages. They’re not Reddit-level outright creepy but definitely unsettling. I preferred the paranormal stories in this because of their writing style.

If you’re looking for a short read where you can take a break once every few chapters, or just something to binge on a long, rainy/stormy night, grab a hot cup of coffee or cocoa and give this a try.
